Yes. In Ontario, builders, project managers, site supervisors, or anyone who constructs, coordinates and sells new homes must be licensed through the Home Construction Regulatory Authority (HCRA) and registered with Tarion.

Homes By Hendriks is fully licensed and maintains membership and compliance with all required industry organizations and regulatory bodies. Working with a licensed builder provides homeowners with important protections, accountability, and confidence that their home is being built according to applicable industry standards and regulations. View our registrations HERE.

Homes By Hendriks is proud to maintain memberships and registrations with several respected industry organizations that promote professionalism, quality, safety, and accountability within the residential construction industry.

These include:

  • Home Construction Regulatory Authority (HCRA)
  • Tarion Warranty Corporation
  • Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA)
  • Ontario Home Builders’ Association (OHBA)
  • Niagara Home Builders’ Association (NHBA)
  • RenoMark™ Program
  • Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB)
  • Ministry of Labour (MOL)

These affiliations demonstrate our commitment to ongoing education, ethical business practices, industry best practices, consumer protection, workplace safety, and professional standards. When choosing a builder, memberships and certifications like these provide homeowners with additional confidence that they are working with a reputable company committed to building quality homes and delivering a professional client experience.

Choosing the right builder is about more than comparing prices. We recommend asking the following questions before making your decision:

  • Are you fully licensed, insured and have all the proper training to complete both new builds and renovations?
  • What does your process look like from start to finish for someone new to building?
  • How do you help clients establish and stay within a realistic budget?
  • What is typically included—and not included—in your quote and how detailed are your specifications?
  • How do you handle changes or decisions that come up during the project?
  • What kind of communication and updates can I expect throughout the build?
  • How do you manage timelines, and what are the most common causes of delays?
  • How is your team structured and who will manage my project?
  • How do you ensure quality control and address issues if something isn’t done right?
  • What permits, approvals, and inspections will I need—and do you handle them?
  • What support do you provide after the project is completed (warranty, follow-up, etc.)?
  • Can you provide references or examples of similar projects?

A reputable builder should be transparent, organized, and willing to answer these questions openly. Taking the time to compare builders properly can help ensure a smoother project and a better overall building experience.

At Homes By Hendriks, we believe building a home should be an exciting and rewarding experience. We intentionally limit the number of projects we take on so we can provide a higher level of service, communication, and oversight to every client. Our approach combines professional project management, trusted trade partners, transparent processes, and quality craftsmanship to create homes that are built to last. We don’t aim to be the biggest builder in Niagara—we aim to be one of the most trusted.

Many of the features included in a Homes By Hendriks home go beyond minimum building code requirements. We focus on performance, durability, energy efficiency, comfort, and long-term value by incorporating advanced building practices, quality materials, enhanced mechanical systems, and rigorous quality control throughout construction.

Every custom home is unique, making it difficult to provide a one-size-fits-all answer. Factors such as square footage, architectural complexity, site conditions, finishes, and servicing requirements all influence cost. During our initial consultation, we can discuss your goals and provide guidance on realistic budget expectations based on current market conditions and the level of finish you are seeking.

Not all construction quotes are created equal. Differences in project management, trade quality, communication, supervision, scheduling, materials, and attention to detail can significantly affect both the construction experience and the finished product. While we may not always provide the lowest quote, our clients value the confidence that comes from working with a builder who prioritizes transparency, organization, craftsmanship, and long-term value over shortcuts.

We build homes using high-performance building envelope systems, advanced insulation strategies, high-performance windows and doors, air sealing techniques, and energy-efficient mechanical systems. The result is improved comfort, lower operating costs, and better long-term performance.

Yes. Building code establishes the minimum acceptable standard. Our approach is to evaluate each project individually and incorporate construction practices, products, and systems that provide better durability, comfort, efficiency, and long-term value wherever appropriate.

Yes. New homes are protected by applicable warranty coverage, and we stand behind the quality of our work. We conduct walkthroughs throughout the project and remain available after completion to address warranty-related questions or concerns. Our commitment to our clients extends well beyond move-in day.

At Homes By Hendriks, we offer both fixed-price and cost-plus contracts, depending on the needs of the project and the preferences of our clients.

A fixed-price contract establishes an agreed-upon price for a defined scope of work before construction begins, providing greater certainty around the project’s base cost. Any changes or additions requested after the contract is signed are managed through a formal change order process.

A cost-plus contract provides full transparency by allowing clients to see the actual costs associated with their project. This approach offers greater flexibility throughout construction, making it easier to accommodate evolving selections, design decisions, and scope changes as the project progresses.

During the planning and consultation phase, we will review your project goals, design status, and priorities to help determine which contract structure is the best fit for your build.

Most custom homes take approximately 12 to 18 months from planning to completion. Renovations (size dependent) are generally 6 to 12 months. Timelines can vary depending on project complexity, municipal approvals, weather, product lead times, and client selections. We work closely with our clients throughout the process to establish realistic expectations and maintain momentum throughout construction.

The level of involvement is entirely up to you. Some clients enjoy being highly involved in decisions throughout the build, while others prefer a more hands-off experience and rely on our team to manage the details.

Our role is to guide you through key decisions, provide expert recommendations, and keep you informed every step of the way. Through regular communication, scheduled meetings, and access to our Buildertrend Client Portal, you’ll always have visibility into your project’s progress without needing to manage the day-to-day construction process yourself.

Communication is one of our highest priorities. Clients receive regular weekly project updates throughout construction and have direct access to their project manager whenever questions arise.

In addition, every client receives access to our Buildertrend Client Portal, which provides real-time visibility into their project. Through the portal, you can track schedules, review progress photos, view important documents, monitor selections, approve change orders, communicate with the project team, and stay informed on project milestones—all from one convenient location.

We believe proactive communication and complete transparency help reduce stress, improve decision-making, and create a more enjoyable building experience from start to finish.

Every Homes By Hendriks project is assigned a dedicated site supervisor who serves as your primary point of contact throughout construction. If you have questions at any stage of the build, your site supervisor is the person to contact for updates, guidance, and support.

Your site supervisor is backed by a team of experienced professionals who oversee scheduling, budgeting, quality control, and trade coordination to keep your project running smoothly.

Clients also have access to our Buildertrend Client Portal, where they can view project updates, schedules, photos, documents, selections, and important project information at any time.

Yes. Clients have access to a dedicated project portal where they can view schedules, project updates, progress photos, budget information, design selections, and communication with the project team. Whether you’re local or building from out of town, you’ll always have visibility into your project’s progress.

Absolutely. We encourage client involvement throughout the building process. Site visits are encouraged to be coordinated through your site supervisor to ensure safety, maintain productivity, and provide opportunities to review progress and discuss upcoming decisions.

It depends on the scope of the renovation. Some projects can be completed while the home remains occupied, while others may require temporary accommodations due to safety concerns, utility interruptions, or construction activity. We discuss these considerations early in the planning process so you can prepare accordingly.

Building a custom home involves hundreds of selections, from flooring and cabinetry to plumbing fixtures, lighting, countertops, and paint colours.

Our team works closely with you throughout the selection process, coordinating meetings with trusted suppliers and design professionals to help ensure your choices align with your vision, lifestyle, and budget. We help simplify what can otherwise be an overwhelming process by providing guidance, recommendations, and clear timelines for important decisions.

Changes are a normal part of custom construction. Whenever a requested change affects pricing, scope, materials, or schedule, we provide a formal change order outlining the impact before any work proceeds. This ensures clients have the information needed to make informed decisions and helps eliminate surprises throughout the project.

Yes. Quality control is a critical part of every Homes By Hendriks project. Throughout construction, our team conducts regular inspections and reviews to help ensure work is completed according to project specifications, industry best practices, and our own quality standards.

In addition to municipal inspections, we maintain internal quality control inspections throughout the build to identify and address issues early, helping ensure a higher-quality finished product for our clients. Our team regularly reviews workmanship, materials, building performance details, and project milestones to help ensure every aspect of the home meets our standards before moving to the next phase.

Yes. Prior to occupancy, we conduct both an internal audit followed by a comprehensive walkthrough with our clients to review the completed home together.

During this meeting, we inspect finishes, review systems and features, discuss operation and maintenance requirements, and address any outstanding items. Our goal is to ensure you feel confident, informed, and excited about moving into your new home.

Yes. We can coordinate and complete a wide range of landscaping and exterior improvement projects as part of your custom home or renovation.

Services may include grading, drainage, patios, walkways, retaining walls, driveways, planting, outdoor living spaces, and other site improvements. Landscaping requirements vary from project to project, so we discuss these options during the planning phase to ensure your home’s exterior is completed in a way that complements the overall design and functionality of the property.

We work with trusted trades and suppliers who share our commitment to quality craftsmanship, professionalism, and integrity. Many of our trade partners have worked with us for years and understand the standards we expect on every Homes By Hendriks project. We believe strong relationships with quality trades are essential to delivering exceptional results.

Many long-term issues stem from shortcuts taken during design or construction, particularly with moisture management, structural systems, insulation, air sealing, and mechanical design. We focus heavily on these critical areas because what goes behind the walls often matters more than the finishes you see every day.

Building a custom home involves thousands of decisions. Our team provides guidance throughout planning, budgeting, selections, and construction to help clients avoid common mistakes that can lead to delays, budget overruns, or future maintenance concerns.

Absolutely. We regularly incorporate future-ready features such as EV charging rough-ins, generator connections, smart home systems, oversized electrical panels, structured wiring, solar readiness, aging-in-place considerations, and flexible layouts that can adapt to future needs.

Yes. While many of our projects involve managing the entire construction process from start to finish, we can also work with clients who require assistance with specific phases of a project. Depending on the scope, this may include foundation work, framing, exterior completion, major renovations, additions, or other defined portions of construction. We’re happy to discuss your goals and determine whether a partial-build arrangement is the right fit for your project.
